Through the Google Project, you have had training experience where you individually trained a class on a particular tool. In this project, you will teach and train a class in small groups of 3, 4 and 5 trainers.

The objectives of this are twofold. First, you will reinforce your earlier training experience with a broader set of skills. Second, through the "teach to learn" method, you will reinforce your own learning of the material as you prepare to teach it.

The textbook that will be your resource for this project is "Management Information Systems: Managing the digital Firm, Laudon and Laudon, Eleventh Edition". You have the Tenth Edition which is not substantially different but ONE copy per group of the newer book is available to each group.


1. Learn about the major components in information systems technology.
2. Demonstrate an advanced understanding of how information technology plays an increasing role in the decision making process of a modern organization.
3. Learn how to team teach. Your team will be assigned a chapter in the textbook and it will be your job to become an EXPERT on that topic through reading, discussion and regular meetings with your instructor. You will then teach and train the other members of the class on your topic.
4. Reinforce the use of relevant Google tools in a group environment.


1. You will form groups of 2, 3, 4 or 5 members (depending on class size and instructions from your faculty).
2. You will be assigned a chapter in the Laudon and Laudon textbook. Read your assigned chapter and begin preparing your group lesson.
3. Meet with your instructor to understand the learning objectives of the chapter. Meeting #1. This will be an assessed meeting.
4. Write the lesson/training plan including all activities. Make sure to address the learning objectives of the chapter. Activities can include videos, case studies, external speakers, field trips, homework assignments or whatever else you feels adds impact to your lesson.
5. Discuss your training plan and training guideline with your instructor. Meeting #2. This will be an assessed meeting.
6. Use relevant Google tools such as Google Docs, Calendar, Google Reader, etc for group communication, sharing of documents and other resources
7. Deliver your lesson. Each lesson must be a minimum of 60 minutes and a maximum of 2 hours. Team members need to speak for equal times. Lessons may carryover into the next class period later in the week.
8. Issues within your teams must be identified and resolved early. Do not come at the end of your project to tell your instructor(s) about problems within teams.
9. You will be given general guidelines on what you need to do. At this point in your studies, you are expected to find/create specific information based on general guidelines. Do not expect your instructor to provide you the answers. Rather, based on discussions and suggestions, you are expected to get the answers through your own research!!

Time Frame

This project will be approximately 7 weeks long. By the end of the second week, you will have figured out your lesson plan and all of your activities.

The FIRST assigned chapter will start on the first class period of the third week.

All lessons will be delivered by the Seventh week (Week 17).

This project is worth 30% of the course and will have the following assessments:

1. Assessed meeting(s). Group/individual assessment. (10%). If there are two assessed meeting instead of one, this component will be 15%.
2. Group assessment on lesson - how the group did during their lesson (well rehearsed, knew material, well prepared, spoke for allotted time). Individual/Group assessment based on quality and effort. (40% Group and 50% Individual)
3. Attendance during the other lessons (20%). You will be required to do peer evaluations of all lessons not your own. If you do all of the required evaluations, you will be eligible to receive the full grades you have been given for the assessed meetings, group and individual grade.

If you miss one of the required peer evaluations due to any reason (such as absences from class during a lesson), there will be an automatic deduction of 10% of your total marks (from #1 and #2). Missing more than one peer evaluation will result in an automatic 20%. Absences in class due to late arrival or other reason (but doing a peer evaluation) will result in an automatic 5% deduction.

Basically, during the lessons, you are expected to be in class and on time.

All assessments will be marked based on the QUALITY of output. Groups will also be ranked based on their delivery. Please read and understand the following general assessment criteria:




Lesson has all of the required elements – lesson was fun with excellent activities, kept the attention of every student and was flawless. Individual students were well prepared and knew their material. It should look like you spent a great deal of time in preparing/delivering your training.

There were no equipment problems or malfunctions and the training was perfect and above expectations.

No absences from any of the other trainings and all peer evaluations were done.


Lesson has all of the required elements including time but lesson is weak. Activities are not interesting or well thought out. Trainers cannot demonstrate expertise in their subject matter.

Minimal equipment or technical malfunction during the lesson.


Lesson lacks a few of the required elements but it looks like some effort has been made. All lessons BELOW the required time limit will only be eligible for a "C" or less.

Trainers are not well-prepared and cannot demonstrate expertise.

Some deadlines have not been met and group/individual makes excuses for why their work is not better.

Major equipment malfunction during the lesson.


Lesson lacks a few of the required elements and it looks like little effort has been made.
