Through the Web 2.0 Project, you have had training experience where you individually trained a class on a particular tool. In this project, you will do a teaching presentation to your class in small groups of 3-4 trainers.

The objectives of this are twofold. First, you will reinforce your earlier training experience with a broader set of skills. Second, through the "learning by doing" process, you will reinforce your own learning of the material as you prepare to teach it.

Please make sure to READ and understand the project guidelines below!


1. Learn about the major components in information systems technology such as hardware, security, and ecommerce in a retailing environment.
2. Demonstrate an understanding of how information technology plays an increasing role in the decision making process of a modern organization.
3. Learn how to team teach. Your team will be assigned a chapter in the textbook and it will be your job to become an EXPERT on that topic through reading, discussion and regular meetings with your instructor. You will then teach and train the other members of the class on your topic.
4. Reinforce the use of relevant Google tools in a group environment.


You will be given general guidelines on what you need to do. At this point in your studies, you are expected to find/create specific information based on general guidelines. Do not expect your instructor to provide you the answers. Rather, based on discussions and suggestions, you are expected to get the answers through your own research!!

1. You will form groups of 3-4 members (depending on class size).
2. You will be assigned a topic related to IT. Start researching the topic and begin preparing your teaching presentation.
3. Write the lesson plan including all activities. Make sure to address the learning objectives of the chapter. Activities can include video and anything else you feel adds impact to your lesson.
4. Discuss your plan with your instructor. One meeting will be an assessed meeting. Please see the Semester Calendar for dates.
5. Use relevant Web 2.0 tools such as Google Docs, Calendar, Google Reader, social bookmarks for group communication, sharing of documents and other resources. Additionally, you will create a Prezi instead of Powerpoint to deliver your lesson.
6. Deliver your lesson. Each lesson must be a minimum of 20 mins and a maximum of 30 mins. Team members need to contribute equally during the lesson in order to get the same marks.
7. Issues within your teams must be identified and resolved early. Do not come at the end of your project to tell your instructor(s) about problems within teams.

Time Frame

This project will be approximately 6 weeks long. By the end of the third week of the project, you need to have written your lesson plan and to have figured out all of your activities.

Assessments and deductions

This project is worth 30% of the course and will have the following assessments:

1. Assessed meeting(s). Group/individual assessment. (10%).
2. Group assessment on lesson - how the group did during their lesson (well rehearsed, knew material, well prepared, spoke for allotted time). Individual/Group assessment based on quality and effort. (70%)
3. Attendance during the other lessons (20%). Missing more than one presentation will result in an automatic 10%. Absences in class due to late arrival or other reason will result in a 5% deduction.

Basically, during the lessons, you are expected to be in class and on time.

The following table contains a list of all the possible deductions in terms of classroom performance and submission of deliverables.

1. Failure to train on the assigned date/time without proper notice and arrangement. -20%
2. Absence during presentations. The 20% is the maximum which means that if you miss ALL training sessions, you will lose 20% of your overall grades. Failure to bring a working laptop to the training session will count as an absence regardless of excuse. -20%
3. Training plan not submitted. -10%
4. Training time is below the minimum -10%
  Missing more than one presentation. -10%
5. Training plan submitted late. -5%
6. Failure to print out training plan on the day of your training session -5%
7. Exceeding training time limit without approval -5%

All assessments will be marked based on the QUALITY of output. Groups will also be ranked based on their delivery. Please read and understand the following general assessment criteria:




Lesson has all of the required elements – lesson was fun with excellent activities, kept the attention of every student and was flawless. Individual students were well prepared and knew their material. It should look like you spent a great deal of time in preparing/delivering your training.

Lesson does not repeat information gone over in class already and adds to and extends the knowledge of the audience.

Lesson is original and creative and exceptional.

There were no equipment problems or malfunctions and the training was perfect and above expectations.

No absences from any of the other trainings.


Lesson has all of the required elements including time but lesson is weak. Activities are not interesting or well thought out. Trainers cannot demonstrate expertise in their subject matter.

Lesson does not repeat information gone over in class already and adds to and extends the knowledge of the audience.

Minimal equipment or technical malfunction during the lesson.

One absence during another lesson.


Lesson lacks a few of the required elements but it looks like some effort has been made. All lessons BELOW the required time limit will only be eligible for a "C" or less regardless of how good the delivery is.

Lesson repeats information already gone over during class and adds little to the existing knowledge of the audience.

Trainers are not well-prepared and cannot demonstrate expertise.

Some deadlines have not been met and group/individual makes excuses for why their work is not better.

Major equipment malfunction during the lesson.

One or more absences during the lessons.


Lesson lacks a few of the required elements and it looks like little effort has been made.

Trainers are not well-prepared and do not show expertise. Group/Individual makes excuses for why their work is not better.

Deadlines have not been met and group/individual makes excuses for why their work is not better.

Training plan was not delivered on time or lacks creativity, completeness and "flow".

Major equipment malfunction during the lesson.

Lesson does not meet criteria. Students who are absent during their lesson will automatically receive an "F" unless it is a documented CRITICAL family issue.
