In this project, you will learn all about famous photographers who have influenced the development of photography. You will learn about the photographer's life, photographic technique - focus, depth of field, color, manipulation, subjects - and why this photographer is an influential force in the field of photography.

3. Understand what factors make photographs really good

Instructions

1. This is a group project.
2. In groups of 2-3, you will give a 15 minute (minimum) presentation on an influential photographer that has made their mark on the field of photography. Note - 15 minutes is the minimum time. However, presentations cannot be longer than 25 minutes so please plan your time accordingly. (*)
3. Your presentation MUST include both facts and images of the photographer’s work.
4. All students in the groups must speak for an equal amount time (approximately). If some members of the team speak much longer than others, they will get a higher grade than team members who speak less. (*)

Assessment

This project will be worth 20% of the total course grades for LSFA-N254.

The presentation will be marked on how much of the below criteria is met and exceeded as well as performance of each student in the group. Each students grade will have 50% group component and 50% individual.

Hint: For higher grades, make sure to present as many interesting facts about this photographer and important photographs rather than just answering the questions below.

Overview of photographer’s life: Most important facts are those related to their work. 10%
Aesthetic Qualities of Work: How would you describe the photographer's work in terms of the elements of photography — focus, depth of field, color, manipulation, subjects, etc. Did these techniques change or were they constant throughout their career? If they changed, what influenced these changes? Showing and discussing photos is an essential component of this portion! 80%
Influence:  Why is this photographer an influential force in the field of photography? Was she/he part of any photography movement? Did he/she influence any other photographers in general?  What/who influenced their work? 10%

Additionally, attendance at all of the other presentations is mandatory. One absence will result in an automatic deduction of 10% of student grade and two or more absences will result in a 20% deduction.
